American Imperialism Analyzed through Political Cartoons

Open Door Policy           This political cartoons issue is about how when China finally opened its doors to other countries everyone began fighting to have it as a sphere of influence (which can be seen as the other countries have scissors and are ready to cut a piece of China for themselves). Due to all of these other countries the United States made the Open Door Policy to stop countries from having monopoly trades with China. The cartoonist's message on the issue is that America was really in control of the other countries spheres of influence. Other opinions I can imagine another person might have is that it was not the United  States place to dictate or control the other countries in China. Panama Canal             This political cartoon's issue is about how Theodore Roosevelt the Republican (which can be seen due to the elephant on the front of the ship) will stop at nothing to get the Panama Canal (which can be seen with all the weapons on his body)  even if it means ignoring Colombia's will (since Panama is a colony of Cuba and people with flags that say Colombia are in the background but Roosevelt is ignoring them). The cartoonist's message on the issue is that Roosevelt was very desperate for Panama as it would help the navy and commercial ships travel faster. Other opinions I can imagine another person having on the issue is that it was not right to take Panama with negotiating with Colombia first. Spanish-American War                   This political cartoon's issue is about how Cuba was being torn apart because they were a part of Spain's many colonies they suffered horrible economic conditions as stated on the frying pan and you see Cuba inside the frying pan and the words anarchy in the back show how the rebellion and Spain are tearing Cuba apart. I believe the cartoonist's message on the issue is almost a form of yellow journalism to the United States citizens and is about why the United States needs to get involved with Cuba. Some other opinions I could imagine another person having on the issue is the fact that we should stay out of it  and let Cuba and Spain handle it themselves.
